COMPUTER EXPERIENCE

Course Management Systems/Authoring tools – Moodle, YahooGroups: developed e-learning syllabus and course material for university courses in Moodle and YahooGroups.  My latest project is in Docebo and Articulate.

WEB ENHANCED TEACHING

2007 – 2010 – This is a new project at e-prof.it/doceboCms/ I am writing course content for the English courses to be used for high school refresher and make-up courses.  e-prof offers courses in math, Latin, Italian literature etc. all part of  the 5 year high school program in Italy.  The LMS is docebo

TEACHING EXPERIENCE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORENCE

20022008 – faculty of “Scienze della Formazione” as professor of TESL in the department of “Formatore Multimediale”, specializing in computer assisted language learning – CALL. Create examples of blended learning, task-based activities and course management systems (Moodle) as a means of engaging students as well as work with international partners and using web 2.0 apps. Write, administer and score all student exams.

In the department of “Scienze della Formazione”, specializing in ESP-English for special purposes, students of psychology and pedagogy are taught in a traditional face-to-face environment. Course responsibilities involve student reading and writing comprehension, translation of articles in a collaborative setting and editing student’s English texts for class instruction. Write, administer and score all student exams.

1999-2001 – Centro Linguistico di Ateneo: the center teaches the four language skills of English, French, Japanese and many others. Responsibilities included teaching English in multi-national environments, using multimedia and traditional methods. Worked in a variety of faculties: engineering, medicine, and others. Created placement tests for student evaluation and researched on-hand materials for teachers.

1997-1998 – Faculty of “Lettere, Operatore Universitario in Operatore di Costume e Moda” teaching ESP in a multi-national classroom to students studying costume design.

1988-1989 – Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at Careggi Hospital, responsible for teaching medical students and doctors: English for Special Purposes.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE IN MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOLS

Team teaching with professors. Italian schools use native speaking teachers in regular classroom situations to improve student’s pronunciation, reading and writing skills and use of idiomatic phrases. The responsibilities revolve around the necessities of the class and include, reading, writing, game activities and one-to-one contact with students.

  1. Wow.

    I taught ESL in the states just one year to a mixed class. Russians, Bosians and Mexicans, mostly. But two young men from Somali and a young lady from Laos – just to sweeten the mix. It was exhausting. Most of the boys though were just marking time until they could drop out and work in family businesses which was frustrating. The Laotian girl was the most gratifying student and she is in nursing school now.
